Learning through videos

This week started on Monday with lecture by Tomasz Odrobinski. He talked about his own experience in workalike and digital marketing. Now his working at eSupplie and he told he has also international experience which I thought was really interesting. I'm always really enthusiastic when somebody has worked abroad or has international experience from work. It is something that I would like to do some day or at least experience it.

Working girls on Tuesday
This weeks task was to do a presentation of our own chosen subject and teach it to others. We had a really hectic week if I can say. We started working on Monday after lecture few hours and continued on Tuesday morning. And our subject for the presentation was video marketing. I love videos and doing them so for me the topic was perfect. On Tuesday we started to do an animation for the presentation and we prepared our prezzi also. Thanks to Tanja we get the animation done. She has a real talent when it comes to those kind of things. We also did a script for Wednesday that we could start filming our video right away.

Wednesday morning we started to work on our video and continued with our press. We wanted to show some examples of good advertising videos so we browse all youtube videos and googled advertising videos that we could find the perfect examples. And we did found. My personal favorite is tough provoking always campaign video. It just something that many people doesn't think through and it so honest and truthful. And the Van Damme Volvo advertise video, it is just beautiful.

Our Prezzi presentation (link) wasn't ready on Wednesday. So we continued on Thursday after others' presentations. We did final shootings and editing. Doing videos is always that takes time and of course we wanted the video be perfect or at least almost. We did finished at 3 or 4pm. I think our presentation is good and I'm proud of it. But still there is so many things of video marketing that would be important as well the things in our presentation. I'm so enthusiastic of videos and video marketing that I think would be something I like to do for work. The branch is so interesting and filming and editing is something where I could use my imagination and creative and try new things. I like all the visuality of videos and what it provokes in people. I think video marketing is most effective form of advertising, because it makes people think.

Our video - How to do videos

It was also nice to hear others' presentations on Thursday. All the presentations  were nicely done but I still was left to wait something new. I like that one group told growth hacking because that was totally new to me. I absolutely had no idea what it means but I do now. Here is a good link what it really means. It is something that have to get more knowledge about.  I was little bit disappointment to that some presentations were things I already knew. One team told us about nordic business forum and that we should go to Tikkurila's campus because they have the live stream for the event. But I already have sign up to it maybe one or two weeks ago. Their presentation were still good and they introduced all the speakers and that was really nice. More information about Nordic Business Forum through this link

I can't wait for Monday because we get to meet our partner company's. It is going to be so interesting. At least I hope so.

Cultures and a lot of work

This week was a little bit different compared to last week. Our team spent many hours at school making this week's video. I also learned bunch of new things about different cultures. Week started on Monday with lecture by our teacher Anna and we also had guest lecturer Lynn-Marie Sederlöf. Anna told us things from cultures and how we should act with people from different cultures and what it means in business life. Overall from Anna's lecture I learned about that I should always pay attention to someones culture and background. When I do business with someones from different part of world I need to respect his/ hers culture and manners.

Lynn lectured us international marketing and digital marketing from a global perspective. Lynn Sederlöf works for Basware and she also has her own company Lacybox. So she told us what she has done for example for Basware and what her strategy is for Lacybox. (Lacybox sells women's underwear in small box and it's meant to be bought by male customers for their wives or girlfriends.) I think it is always nice to hear someones experiences especially when it comes to entrepreneur's experiences. I was really excited to hear what she had done for digital marketing and what kind of digital marketing is best for both Basware and Lacybox. She told that she has designed Basware's website for example. And I was also really eager to hear that even big company's like Basware use social media for marketing. The company has a blog and twitter account and I was maybe a little bit surprised but in a positive way.

For the task of this week we had to do a presentation for a culture by our own choice. Our group chose Norway. We were exited about how many different things we founded from culture which is so close to Finland but in a way still different.

This week's video by FTS13

Our team spend many hours at school making the video. On Tuesday we started at 11am and finished at 4pm. And on Monday we started at 9am and were ready maybe about 6pm. So what I mean we really did a lot of work for this video.  But it was really fun and it's always nice to spend time with this group. We have such good team spirit and we encourage each others to do different things which are out of our comfort zone (for example speaking in English in front of camera).

We had Linda's dog to cheer us also.

This week I learned a lot more about filming and editing. This week we filmed with my camera and Linda brought the microphone for the camera (On Tuesday we didn't have microphone which effected to the voice). It was a little bit easier to do the video this time since we had a little experience after last time. And I think this week video was better compared to first week but that's our goal, to be better every time.

On Thursday we showed the video to the class again and I'm clad we did. We also get to watch other group's presentations. It was very learnfull to hear about other cultures and I heard many new thing that I didn't know before, for example Japanese culture you really have to have huge respect to everyone and bow when giving something. One thing that confuses me is that some cultures you really have to have a small talk and there is no split for work/business and free time. Here in Finland and in Scandinavia we separate business and our free time so it's really uncomfortable for example talk about family matters to a business partner.

We also had to do our own cultural baggage for this week's task. So here is mine.

All in all the most important thing I learned this week is that you have to adapt to a different culture or at least understand others and respect their culture.

What about social media and self branding

This week was about self branding and social media channels. Self branding was already familiar to me from previous courses but I learned new tricks and  the video part was totally new to me.

We got assignment to do a video of ourself and to do a elevator pitch. I am not use to be in front of the camera and I know I need to get to used to it. But one step at a time. From the lecture I learned about self branding in content. I did know that all of my gestures affects to that message that I'll try to send but I didn't know how to use my gestures as a support. So now I know how to use my gestures but it takes me some learning to use them right.

Learning from each others on Monday

On Monday we gathered wit our group after lecture and did the task to tell each other were where the other one is good at. We did a mind map each of us and wrote the thing that one is really good at.
Mind map of myself.

Good self branding is a huge  benefit in the labor market and I am going to improve it with time. And one thing that I learned that self-confidence reflect in self branding. For example if I don't trust myself to be good at something there's no way that somebody else will.

                                           My pitch video

I think my video is quite good but I could have used more gestures to support my message. The next time it will be a lot better, because still this was my first pitch video..

Thursday's lecture was about marketing communications and social media marketing. Some of the things in lecture I did know from previous courses. Partly new things to me were that how I can affect to my rational and emotional appeal. The major thing I learned this week that when marketing I have to affect target's subconscious because people do decisions 95% based on their subconscious. That was new to me and I am definitely going to focus on that more.

But social media marketing. I know how social media marketing works and nowadays social media is a major part of marketing and it is growing all the time. I am interested in social media marketing skills and I am excited of what I can learn of that at this course.

My social media is Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Snapchat, blogger (for this course), LinkedIn and google+.  I don't have Pinterest but I have thought that I would do it but let's see.
But I have to say I have a lot to learn from all of these social media sites because I am not a pro at least not yet.

And BTW we have our own twitter account for our team FTS13, Go and follow us on Twitter FTS13

First week in a digital jungle

My first thoughts about the digital business course were sceptical  and maybe even a little bit scared. I was scared mostly about the language, because the whole course would be in english. But the course totally surprise me and I surprise myself. My first day of the course was on Tuesday because I had to work on Monday and I was scared I would fall behind from others. Luckily I didn't and my team told me everything from the first class I needed to know.

Team FTS13 and our teachers

On Tuesday our team were thinking that lets make a video and we got an idea for the video after a few hours of thinking. Biggest worries were that how would we edit the video and how do we get the holograms to video what we wanted. Thanks to Tanja (from our team) we got the holograms to work for the video. We started to film the video a little bit on Tuesday and continued at Wednesday. After many takes we got the material and then we started to do the editing part. First we had problems that what program we would do the editing or who's computer we would use. We needed to switch our meeting room couple times and end up doing it with my computer since I had iMovie (Apple's own editing program). We did the editing for many hours and left from school about six o'clock in the evening.  But I had to say the time didn't bother me because doing school project had never been that much fun and I had a really good feeling about the video.

Here is the final result of the week.

After this week I have totally different mindset compare to what I had on a first day. I am excited for upcoming weeks and see the results of our team and other teams. I am really proud of my team, all of them. For the first week this was amazing and I really learned a lot in just one week.
