Cultures and a lot of work

This week was a little bit different compared to last week. Our team spent many hours at school making this week's video. I also learned bunch of new things about different cultures. Week started on Monday with lecture by our teacher Anna and we also had guest lecturer Lynn-Marie Sederlöf. Anna told us things from cultures and how we should act with people from different cultures and what it means in business life. Overall from Anna's lecture I learned about that I should always pay attention to someones culture and background. When I do business with someones from different part of world I need to respect his/ hers culture and manners.

Lynn lectured us international marketing and digital marketing from a global perspective. Lynn Sederlöf works for Basware and she also has her own company Lacybox. So she told us what she has done for example for Basware and what her strategy is for Lacybox. (Lacybox sells women's underwear in small box and it's meant to be bought by male customers for their wives or girlfriends.) I think it is always nice to hear someones experiences especially when it comes to entrepreneur's experiences. I was really excited to hear what she had done for digital marketing and what kind of digital marketing is best for both Basware and Lacybox. She told that she has designed Basware's website for example. And I was also really eager to hear that even big company's like Basware use social media for marketing. The company has a blog and twitter account and I was maybe a little bit surprised but in a positive way.

For the task of this week we had to do a presentation for a culture by our own choice. Our group chose Norway. We were exited about how many different things we founded from culture which is so close to Finland but in a way still different.

This week's video by FTS13

Our team spend many hours at school making the video. On Tuesday we started at 11am and finished at 4pm. And on Monday we started at 9am and were ready maybe about 6pm. So what I mean we really did a lot of work for this video.  But it was really fun and it's always nice to spend time with this group. We have such good team spirit and we encourage each others to do different things which are out of our comfort zone (for example speaking in English in front of camera).

We had Linda's dog to cheer us also.

This week I learned a lot more about filming and editing. This week we filmed with my camera and Linda brought the microphone for the camera (On Tuesday we didn't have microphone which effected to the voice). It was a little bit easier to do the video this time since we had a little experience after last time. And I think this week video was better compared to first week but that's our goal, to be better every time.

On Thursday we showed the video to the class again and I'm clad we did. We also get to watch other group's presentations. It was very learnfull to hear about other cultures and I heard many new thing that I didn't know before, for example Japanese culture you really have to have huge respect to everyone and bow when giving something. One thing that confuses me is that some cultures you really have to have a small talk and there is no split for work/business and free time. Here in Finland and in Scandinavia we separate business and our free time so it's really uncomfortable for example talk about family matters to a business partner.

We also had to do our own cultural baggage for this week's task. So here is mine.

All in all the most important thing I learned this week is that you have to adapt to a different culture or at least understand others and respect their culture.
